Tools to help you determine your talents and career
How do you decide what to study?
Below are some time-tested resources to help you find out what you would be good at,
based on what you like and who you are are:
What color is your parachute? This book guides you through a soul-searching session or sessions, which may help you uncover your innate talents and tendencies.
Related to What color is your Parachute? is the Meyers-Briggs test, which classifies you into one of 16 different types of personalities in relation to whether you are an Introvert or Extrovert, Sensing or Intuitive, Thinker vs Feeler, and Perceiving vs. Judging. These labels are defined more clearly in the book, Gifts Differing, by Isabella Myers-Briggs. The Myers-Briggs test could be taken and interpreted at various school career counseling centers and some free and not free tests are on-line.
The Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory test tests your affinity to certain skill set areas and then matches them up with others who have liked the same things you do in various fields. The idea is that people with similar interests would be happy in the same fields. Testing and information on the Strong-Campbell tests could be found at school career counseling centers and online. The Strong-Campbell test is often administered together with the Myers-Briggs test to help you decide on career paths.
